The wrapping party is back! Join us and help wrap donated gifts for Second Story’s young mothers, formerly homeless, and teen programs. Spend as much time as your schedule permits. The wrapping party will run until all the presents have been wrapped. Following the wrapping party, we will deliver the gifts to Second Story. You do not have to bring a gift to attend. Feel free to invite colleagues who are potential DLs. We'd love to introduce them to NAIOP's DL Program.
How to Donate
Second Story has provided us with a wishlist of gifts for each participant. At our deadline of December 7, we are pleased to report that everyone on the wishlist has been selected.
- If you would like to provide a donation, Second Story accepts giftcards – groceries, Amazon, gas, Uber and department stores like Target.
- Recommended denominations are $5 for grocery cards and $25 for the other types of cards.
- Bring your unwrapped giftcards, with denominations marked, to the DL Holiday Wrapping Party on December 12 at Valo Park. We will begin at 11:00 AM. Feel free to help wrap gifts.
- Stay a while, grab lunch and/or try some hot chocolate.

DEQ Director Mike Rolband, speaks with NAIOP Members about the changes underway at DEQ.

Please join us for Lunch with … Mike Rolband, Director of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) on Wednesday, September 27. After a long and productive career in natural and cultural resources consulting, Mike joined DEQ in January of 2022. He has had a lifelong interest in wetlands and stormwater management and its interaction with natural waterbodies. Mike has worked as a Professional Engineer, Professional Wetland Delineator, Professional Wetland Scientist and LEED Advanced Professional. In 1991, he founded Wetland Studies and Solutions, which has grown into a company with multiple offices with more than 200 staff. While growing his company, he also spent countless hours contributing to changes in Virginia environmental laws where he was instrumental in developing Virginia’s wetlands laws, stormwater regulations, and the energy balance method of stormwater quantity control.

On March 30, please join NAIOP Northern Virginia for our Annual Forecast. It's the first in person forecast the chapter has hosted since February of 2020, and you don't want to miss it. With the GSA's Nina Albert and CBRE's Brad Flickinger as our speakers, this program will be timely and informative. You can expect to hear up-to-date information about Northern Virginia's real estate statistics, the impact that the pandemic has had on our local markets, and what plans the GSA is putting in place that will affect our region.

City Manager Parajon talks to a sold-out crowd of NAIOP members about the City of Alexandria.

With his one-year anniversary completed, Alexandria City Manager James Parajon is having lunch with NAIOP on March 23 for a long-overdue conversation about Alexandria and the road ahead. It is an interesting, as well as a critical, time in Alexandria. Recent announcements have been made about the "topping off" for Virginia Tech and the shrinking of the USPTO's footprint. The waterfront is experiencing dramatic changes at King Street, while multiple residential conversions and construction projects are underway in the north end of Old Town. Although Alexandria's office vacancy rate is steady, there continues to be angst about employees returning to work. Recently announced real estate assessments have increased by 5% for residential and almost 2% for commercial. There is a lot to discuss.
Parajon came to Alexandria from Arlington, Texas where he served as Deputy City Manager and prior to that, Director of Planning and Development. Parajon has also worked in local government in North Carolina for both Cary and Raleigh. He holds a Masters Degree in Regional Planning from UMASS Amherst and in 2014, he was elected to the College of Fellows for the American Institute of Certified Planners.

NAIOP Northern Virginia has designed a basic course for real estate professionals from NAIOP member companies who want to learn how fundamental real estate decisions are made. During seven sessions, the course will examine the real estate development process from a practitioner’s perspective – and will show how successful developers actually think about and solve problems.
