On Wednesday, November 30, please join NAIOP Northern Virginia for Lunch with ... Phyllis Randall, Chair of Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. Mrs. Randall was elected as Chair of the Board of Supervisors in November of 2015 and took office in January of this year. She is new to elected office but has a long history of public service locally and at the state level. In addition to serving on numerous Board committees, she represents the county on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, the Dulles Area Transportation Association, the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, and the Route 28 Transportation Improvement District Commission. She also chairs the Virginia State Board of Corrections.
As Loudoun Chair, she oversees one of the fastest growing counties in the Commonwealth with the highest median household income in the United States. Up to 70% of the world's internet traffic passes through Loudoun County on a daily basis with data centers occupying more than 9 million square feet in the county. Information and communications technology is the largest industry cluster in Loudoun County, employing 23,000 people and representing 15% of Loudoun's private employment. Through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus, over $100 million is invested each year in biomedical research.
Don't miss this opportunity to meet Phyllis Randall and to learn about her goals for the county and the planning that is taking place as the county prepares for the Loudoun Metro openings in 2020.

On October 20, NAIOP Northern Virginia will present a breakfast seminar focused on the revitalization of the Richmond Highway corridor. This submarket is located in the southeastern portion of Fairfax County, extending from the Alexandria/Fairfax County boundary at the Capital Beltway south along Richmond Highway/U.S. Route 1 to Fort Belvoir.
With the combination of growth extending south from Alexandria and the Metro Yellow Line/Huntington Station; thousands of new jobs relocating to Fort Belvoir; and the demand for space, dramatic new development is occurring in this area. To accommodate future growth, Fairfax County has initiated Embark Richmond Highway, a comprehensive process to re-plan the corridor to accommodate the extension of Metrorail. Our panel will provide a historical overview of the area, and discuss the current and future transformation of the region.

Many NAIOP members are focused on the continued evolution of Tysons, one of the largest commercial markets in the United States with approximately 26.8 million square feet of office space and 6 million square feet of retail. Planning for a "new" Tysons has been underway for years with a goal of creating a 24-hour urban center where people live, work and play. With the opening of the Silver Line, the cranes are finally in the air and the transformation is occurring.
In follow up to NAIOP's Tysons, Part One program, our January 21 luncheon will explore four additional developments initiated by American Real Estate Partners, Foulger-Pratt, Lerner Enterprises, and MITRE, which will enhance the Tysons neighborhoods.
