NAIOP Northern Virginia Bus Tour

May 9, 2019

Photos from the Bus Tour are on our website... Click here

As a result of the announcement that Amazon’s HQ2 is coming to National Landing an incredible amount of change has begun.

Do you know what existing space has been leased? What sites are being sold? Which buildings are coming down? What will be residential? Do you know where the public improvements are being planned including a new Metro entrance, a new Metro station, a new VRE station, a pedestrian bridge to Reagan National Airport and which bridges have already come down? Do you know where the Virginia Tech Innovation campus will be located?

In addition to National Landing, we will travel around the Beltway where you will see multiple new headquarters buildings under construction, two new Wegmans, several exciting building repositioning projects (including our lunch hosts, 80 at Fairview), multiple sites with proposed 300+ foot towers and several luxury residential buildings underway. And, at the end of the day, talk about the tour and what you learned at the post tour reception, sponsored by the Crystal City BID.

Ride the Bus this year, and you will learn about how the market is changing in National Landing, Alexandria, the R-B Corridor, Fairview Park/Merrifield and Tysons. Plus, you will have a lot of fun networking with your peers.

Lunch with ... Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson

March 26, 2019

MayorWilsonLunchWeb
Mayor Wilson explains a question raised by a NAIOP Member.

Program

On Tuesday March 26, please join NAIOP Northern Virginia for Lunch with ... Alexandria Mayor Justin Wilson. Mr. Wilson was elected Mayor in November of 2018 after having served eight years on the City Council, including serving as Vice Mayor from 2016 to 2019. Prior to his election to the City Council, he served as the Chair of the Alexandria Transit Company Board of Directors, which operates the City’s DASH bus service, and served on the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee. Wilson was also twice elected president of the Del Ray Citizens Association. He currently represents the City on the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Board of Directors.

Alexandria continues to enjoy a solid economy and steady economic growth. The 2018 announcement of HQ2 brings a great deal of attention to the City and to the future of Potomac Yard. With a new Metro station being planned and Virginia Tech’s billion dollar innovation campus -- a great deal of change will happen. Meanwhile, change continues in other areas, such as Carlyle and Eisenhower Avenue, and the commencement of redevelopment at Landmark Mall. There are also some challenges including the planned "Summer Shutdown" of METRO, the costs of the combined stormwater-sanitary systems, and how the newly adopted Opportunity Zones will change one area of the City. It is an exciting time. Come hear what the Mayor is planning and how NAIOP can be part of that success.
