Please join the NAIOP Board of Directors for virtual Holiday Networking and a brief Annual Meeting on Thursday, December 17 at noon. The Airmeet platform will be used which allows guests to be seated in our virtual ballroom at tables of eight. A member of the chapter’s leadership will be assigned to each table. You will have the opportunity to move from table to table throughout the function, and have a private conversation at a table for two if needed.
Airmeet was used successfully for networking during our virtual Awards program in November. Awards attendees strongly encouraged us to use it again. Although NAIOP has produced numerous virtual programs during the pandemic, we have missed visiting with colleagues and friends. With Airmeet, we can network virtually.
We hope to see you on December 17 as we cap off NAIOP's fortieth year. There is no charge for NAIOP members.

This will allow you to directly see, chat, and engage with others at event tables. Click here for Networking FAQs.

We know networking is important. So we have been working hard to find a good way to make it work virtually. For the Annual Meeting we are using AIRMEET, a webinar hosting platform with which you can now personally connect with other attendees at the NAIOP Northern Virginia Holiday Networking and Annual Meeting. This will allow you directly see, chat, and engage with others at event tables. It is almost like you are mingling in the foyer waiting for the doors to open to the ballroom. Exciting features include: private messaging to other attendees; seat selection and table preview; and, face-to-face interaction with other guests.
How is this different from other NAIOP Northern Virginia webinars and events?
Airmeet is a dynamic, multi-faceted event platform that goes beyond simple webinar streaming. This new platform allows private messaging to other attendees, seat selection and table preview, and, face-to-face interaction with other guests.
What is a virtual table?
It’s exactly how it sounds. When you enter the webinar session, you can choose a "table" to join. You are then part of a table video session where guests can message each other and watch the live event together.
Can I change tables?
Yes! If you want to change tables for any reason, you simply leave the table you are at and find another one – allowing for even greater opportunities to connect with a wide array of industry colleagues.
Can I direct message other attendees?
You will be able to private message other attendees during the meeting. Private messages are not archived.
What browser do I need to use to attend the virtual event?
The desktop version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge is recommended.

Leaders in real estate shape our communities with every deal they make. During this time when society's attentions are focused on the BLM movement and a pandemic, all companies should focus on how their core business can improve racial equity. The financial challenges we are facing make this the ideal time to double down on creative solutions to improve the bottom line by doing so.
On September 30, you'll hear from representatives of two best in class organizations on how they "do well by doing good" when it comes to racial equity and community relations. Our speakers will discuss a range of topics from community involvement, to hiring, to what truly being local means in making a difference in the lives of the residents in the neighborhoods where we do business. These conversations are not easy, but these companies have brought all of their deal making skills to increasing equity for their investors AND their communities.

On September 17, NAIOP welcomes the opportunity to have one of our "Lunch with" programs with Ann Wheeler, Chair-at-Large of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. Although it will be a virtual program, St. John Properties has graciously offered to host this event and have lunch delivered to your work or home. There are several lunch options to consider when you register and you must include a delivery address.
Chair Wheeler was elected in the 2019 General Election and is the first Democratic board chair since 1999. Until the most recent election, there was a Republican majority on the board for more than two decades. When she took office in January, she was one of five newly elected board members of the eight-person board which governs Virginia’s second-most populous county with approximately 469,000 residents. Prior to moving to Prince William County in 2001, Chair Wheeler spent 15 years working and consulting in the energy industry. Since becoming a county resident, she has been very active as a fourteen year member of the NOVEC board and chair of the Prince William Board of Social Services. She is also a graduate of the Prince William County Community Leadership Institute and served a two-year term as President of the Prince William Committee of 100.
Prince William County continues to grow at a rapid rate. The eastern portion of the county offers opportunities for investment with the revitalization of Route 1. Recent developments in the western portion of the county have included data centers and distribution warehouses. The county is also updating its Small Area Plans. In addition, the county is undertaking various revisions to the Zoning Ordinance including a proposed text amendment to define and zone distribution and fulfillment facilities and the addition of a new Mixed-Used Zoning District.
We look forward to hearing from Chair Wheeler about her priorities and plans for the remainder of 2020 and beyond.

Following recent landmark economic development deals with Amazon and Micron Technology totaling over $5.5 billion and creating more than 25,000 jobs, large corporations continue to eye Northern Virginia and its skilled workforce as an attractive, growing hub of opportunity for investment. The steady influx of top talent to the region has driven increased demand for places to live. The area now faces a serious supply issue when it comes to affordability, particularly for median income renters and young professionals.
Join NAIOP Northern Virginia on September 10 for a panel discussion about the housing shortage in Northern Virginia. The program will include an overview of the market and present solutions for successfully addressing the demand and benefiting communities and investors.

The Northern Virginia Region has benefited from significant infrastructure projects to include the Silver Line Phases 1 & 2, I-66 Improvements and Route 7 widening. These projects are the result of an increase in sustained transportation funding. What additional projects are planned to come online to continue to support our infrastructure and guide development? Will we be able to rely on sustained funding or will the region need to continue to be an innovator and leverage public/private partnerships or joint development projects to continue to move projects forward? Finally, how will development adapt to take advantage of the expanding infrastructure and also address changes in the way we move around in the short term and long term.

The COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts have been extreme and are a constantly moving target. The real estate community faces unprecedented challenges. Everyone’s first concern is reducing the spread and flattening the curve. In commercial buildings this means protecting your employees’ and tenants’ health and safety.
In this effort to protect health and safety many tough questions arise: What restrictions do I put on my building? What should be done when a known or suspected case is present in the building? How many times will I have to go through this costly disinfection process?
Join us for a discussion on the issues surrounding health and safety in commercial spaces. During the presentation, we will explore COVID-19 prevention measures, managing tenant requests, the transition back to partial or full occupancy, the response actions that should take place after a known or suspected case, and the difficult questions that have no easy answers.
